How it works

Run the exe

One standalone file. No installer, no .NET download. UAC asks for administrator because system changes need it.

Preview on this PC

Discovery scans installed apps, OEM, and current blocks. Preview lists what would apply, what is already done, and what is not here.

Apply when you agree

A restore point is created first. Then only checked items run. Watchers are optional if you want blocks to stick after updates.

Four tiers. You stay in control.

Radios set suggested checkboxes. Nothing is forced. Privacy and Balanced are the everyday path; Aggressive and Kiosk are named that way on purpose.

Preview vs Apply

Preview is safe and read-only. Apply creates a restore point, then makes changes.

Update watchers

Optional logon tasks that re-apply Persistent Blocks if Windows Update undoes them.

USB / portable use

One standalone exe. No install. Local cache lives under your AppData folder.

How do I use it safely?

  1. Run as administrator when prompted.
  2. Pick a tier (Privacy → Kiosk).
  3. Review Persistent Blocks and Apps checkboxes.
  4. Click Preview Changes first.
  5. Only then click Apply.

What are update watchers?

Scheduled tasks named like WinBaseline-Persist-* that run at logon and re-check selected Persistent Blocks. They are optional and not real-time monitoring.

Can I run it from a USB stick?

Yes. Copy only WinBaseline.exe. On first run it extracts the engine to %LOCALAPPDATA%\WinBaseline\ on that PC.

Something failed during Apply

Check the Preview / Results tab and the log folder under LocalAppData. Most items are skipped cleanly if already removed. One failure does not stop the whole run.

Is Kiosk a locked-down kiosk mode?

Tier 4 · Dedicated is a heavy cleanup preset. True Kiosk (Pro) adds guided Windows Assigned Access (single-app lock) in the app under Options — $29 one-time. Privacy and Balanced stay free.
